United Nations Science, Technology and Innovation Forum
When
5 – 6 June 2018
Where
New York, United States
IFLA will be represented by Past President, Donna Scheeder
Description
New technologies offer significant potential to drive development worldwide. They do this by improving productivity, breaking down challenges linked to distance and poor communication and, crucially, by opening up new perspectives for access to information. At this year's United Nations Science, Technology and Innovation Forum (UN STI Forum), IFLA will be setting out how libraries help make this happen.
The UN STI Forum, a sub-group of the Economic and Social Committee, meets annually to discuss science, technology and innovation cooperation around thematic areas for the implementation of the SDGs. It is a chance to underline the need for smart implementation of smart technologies, in order to ensure that all can benefit.
IFLA will be there - represented by IFLA President 2015-17 Donna Scheeder - speaking on a panel on smart cities as well as attending other sessions. With Sustainable Development Goal 11 (sustainable cities and communities) in focus, it is a good time to underline the need for libraries as institutions that can, through meaningful access to information, make the bridge between technology and better lives for all.
