The 2021 edition builds on the web publication Best Practice for National Bibliographic Agencies in a Digital Age (2014-2017).

The web resource built on the original printed National Bibliographies in the Digital Age: Guidance and New Directions (2009) created by the IFLA Working Group on Guidelines for National Bibliographies.
